We had a great week last week! We attended a beautiful Remembrance Day liturgy. We also had a visit from the Humane Society.
In Math, we are almost ready to move on from Addition & Subtraction. The students have learned and practiced many strategies to solve problems involving 2 and 3 digit subtraction with and without regrouping. This week we will start a new unit in Patterning. The Learning Goals for this unit include:
-Use patterns to describe or develop a deeper understanding of known number relationships.
-Apply a verbal or pictorial pattern rule (on a number line) to create a numerical pattern.
-Represent a shape pattern as a number pattern that is shown as a list, a graph, or a number-line picture.
-Represent more complex repeating patterns in which two attributes change but not simultaneously.
In Language, we have been working on reading and writing Descriptive Texts. The kids really enjoyed using their senses to use adjectives to describe how "Pop Rocks" felt in their mouths! We also described our "stuffies" on PJ day. This week we have a writing assignment to finish about "Pop Rocks" and we are also reading a beautiful book called "The Black Book of Colours". This book is about a boy, Thomas, describing the way different colors taste, feel, smell, and sound. Written in English as well as Braille, the book allows readers to experience the world as someone without sight might.
In Science, the students are working on a project about a Natural Force using google slides. They are working in partners to research what the Natural Force is, and the effects on land, people, and animals. Some forces include: tornadoes, landslides, erosion, lightning, tidal waves. We will be finishing these projects this week and presenting them.
This is week is Bully Awareness week. Our class will be really focusing on what kindness means through different readings and activities.
Have a great week!
