I can't believe September is coming to an end already! What a great month it has been in Grade 3!
Last week we had a lock down practise, we visited the Learning Commons and had Reading Buddies with some Grade 1 friends (you would have been so proud of your child!!!). Our Learning Commons day is Thursday. This Thursday students will be able to sign out books.
Math: We started a mini unit on Skip Counting. Students practised skip counting by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s both forward and backward beginning at various numbers. This week we will start a new unit on Estimating and Comparing Whole Numbers. The goals for this unit are:
*Connect a number to its nearest multiple of ten by rounding.
*Use skip counting to build appropriate number lines for different situations.
*Compare large numbers using reasoning and benchmarks.
*Use a variety of representations and reasoning to order numbers.
Language: We continued with rotating between our 5 Literacy Stations (Making Words, Writing, Grammar, RAZ kids, and working with teacher). We will continue to focus on recount writing as well as reading comprehension responses.
Art: We are continuing to work on our Line Leaf Art.
Science: We started our unit on Forces by collaborating with Mrs. Summer's Grade 3 students by thinking and discussing the topic and what we know about it.
Religion: We are learning a song "Who is My Neighbour"

for the Thanksgiving Mass. Grade 3 classes will be leading this Mass on Friday October 4th at 10:55. We have also been practising for the Mass and talking about what we are thankful for.
Monday is Orange Shirt Day. On Monday we will wear an orange shirt on September 30th to keep the discussions of residential schools and reconciliation present among us all. It is a way to open conversations about residential schools and the impact it had on the indigenous families and children. A discussion with students will take place on Monday.
Homework: We will begin homework on Monday. Some of the homework will be based on the word wall words, as well as other language and math activities. Homework will be assigned Monday and due Friday and will be kept in their homework duotang. There are suggested activities for each day of the week if you wish to break it up for your child. If you see instructions that say "type the word..." please have your child write it. Originally this homework was shared electronically. I am happy to accommodate you based on your preference. If you would rather the homework be shared electronically please indicate in your child's agenda, otherwise I will continue to send home the paper copies in duotangs. Homework will be checked but not marked. I welcome any feedback you have about homework.
Have a great week!
